The Frog and the Hawk

Oct 11 2021

I leapt right! I leapt left! I leapt in every single direction. I just could not hide from it. It rushed after me. It was not looking good for me at all, but then, I could see it, the Frog Sanctuary! I gave it all I had. I leapt and sprinted, a combination of both! Then, I leapt backwards, hitting its head. Then I used that bounce to spring forward with a lot of power. I landed right at the entry. I entered and then it left. I was relieved. I went to the leader and said, “The Hawks, they are planning an attack on us! We need to leave. The sanctuary is losing its power! Call the Council of the Frogs. Check in with them, okay? Please, this is not a game. This is war. If we do not do anything about it, we will be putting all the frogs in danger. So, please do something about it.” The leader nodded and went. I went to spy on them again.

I plunged into the water and quickly and quietly swam across the river. A minute later, I found the Hawks Nest. I clambered up a tree nearby and spied on them. There was a lot of pandemonium because the leader had an idea and a lot of Hawks threw dead worms or crickets at him. Then the leader got mad and a whole war between the Hawks occurred. Some Hawks were clamoring because they ordered a Wormy Cricket dish 5 days ago and did not get their order. I thought to myself, “This is good. They are fighting one another. They can’t seem to work together! That is their weakness! So that is how we could defeat them. We just need to break them apart… and I have just the plan.”

I went to the sanctuary and told the leader, “I know how to defeat the Hawks! Please allow me to speak to the Council of the Frogs, please? Or… I could just tell you now, so then you can tell the Council of the Frogs! So… which one will it be?” The leader told me, “Neither. I already spoke with them. They said we are moving to a safer, quieter, less dangerous area in a fortnight. Pack up, get ready, do what you need to do before we move. Go on, pack up, tell the others.” I was down in the dumps. Why didn’t he listen to my idea? Wait, what if I get my best friend to not tell anyone, but help me break the Hawks apart! This is a great idea that the leader won’t hear, but I can still execute.

So I went to my friend’s house. I said, “Hello Greg!” Greg replied, “Hi Toad! Your legs are as short as ever!” So now I began to tell him my top secret plan. Once I told him, he said, “...That is the craziest plan I have ever heard! I like it. Now come on! What are we waiting for! The Hawks aren’t gonna defeat themselves! Wait a sec… they kind of are… but that’s not the point!” So we began to let the Hawks defeat themselves! We both knew what the Hawks do, how they do things, why they do things, where they do things, and when they do things. I spied on them long enough to know all of this. We knew their entire routine, so we decided to get the leader out first.

It was the perfect time to get the leader out because he was going to give a speech about… I don’t really know. He was going to read from a script, so we decided to mess the script up. We sneaked across the Hawks Nest, almost getting caught by the lookout. We went to the Great Library and saw it. The halfway finished script for the speech. Also, we know the leader. He usually never pays attention to what he is saying. So technically, if we changed it a bunch and said something mean about all the Hawks, a lot of the Hawks would leave the Hawks Nest and move somewhere else to live there. Then some of the remaining Hawks could get the leader out in some way, and then all the Hawks would go haywire without a leader. When that happens, more Hawks will leave! For the remaining Hawks, we could outnumber them with all the frogs because there would only be about 2 or 3 Hawks remaining. Then, they would leave and we would not have to leave the Frog Sanctuary. We decided to put this plan in action. We took a feather and dipped it into some ink. Then, we began to edit the speech. Finally, for what seemed like forever, we finished. Just in time too! The leader was coming to collect his script. We needed to leap. We went outside and hopped to a nearby tree. We went up and watched our masterpiece in action.

The leader came and everybody applauded. “Hello Hawks! I am going to give a speech today!”, announced the leader. Everyone applauded once again, and then, he got ready to give his speech. I excitedly whispered to Greg, “Ooh I am so excited!” There was a lot of murmuring among the Hawks while they waited for the leader to get ready. I wondered why. Finally, the leader cleared his throat and began his speech. He read, “Hello Hawks! As you know, I am giving a speech today. I hope it is of your liking. All of you Hawks are so lazy! You never work and complain about everything! You all should leave the Hawks Nest. I do not know why I even founded this place and let you in. You all just sleep in, don’t work, and… basically do nothing at all. The reason why I am saying this is that I want you to leave because you all are so annoying, you are so chaotic, and you-you’re just the worst… thing that is alive. So I order all of you to get out right now! If you stay… Well, let’s just say you are gonna have a very bad day! Badbye” After this, a lot of Hawks were stewing with anger. Most of them flew off in rage, but some of them stayed, still very angry. Yes! Phase one of the plan was complete. Now, for phase two, we just had to let them do the job. We did not have to do anything. For phase two, we sat and relaxed, watching the plan come into place. The remaining Hawks got some big sticks, sharpened and carved them so they could be swords, spears, javelins, maces, bows and arrows, and a whole assortment of other weapons. Then, as a very little army, they all surged forward to the leader and used the weapons against him. He barely survived with his life. Then he kind of glided away because he could not fly. He needed to tend to his body. Then the rest of the Hawks became crazy. They decided that without a leader they could not live in the Hawks Nest. So again, most of them left, which leaves 2 Hawks left. They could manage themselves so they just decided to live their best life.

Meanwhile, me and Greg went to get all of the frogs. I told the leader, “I have good news! There are only two Hawks left in the Hawks Nest! We got rid of all the other Hawks! If you go and gather all the frogs in the Frog Sanctuary, we could outnumber them and conquer them once and for all. If you do not believe me, come, I’ll show you. There are literally only 2 Hawks left.” The leader said, “Hmm, fine. I will call all the frogs with the Frog Croak.” The leader blew into the Frog Croak. CROAAAAAAAAAAAK! All the frogs rushed to the Frog Square. The leader announced, “Everyfroggy, follow Toad in a single-file line! We are going to defeat the remaining two Hawks in the Hawks Nest. This way we will never have to worry about the Hawks again!” We went to the Hawks Nest with little to no issues on the way. When we reached, we saw the two Hawks talking in the Hawks Square. They were actually strategizing a way to defeat the frogs. But, no matter. They were about to leave in a couple minutes. We sneaked across the Hawks Square and leaped forward, surrounding the Hawks. They were surrounded, helpless. There was no way they were going to beat us. We slowly approached them, trying to make them fear us so they would never come back. Then, we leaped forward and tackled them. We fought as hard as we could. Fortunately, we did not need to. They escaped from our grasps and flew as fast as they could, away. Finally, we did it. We beat the Hawks and from now on, nobody could beat us. After that, nobody even dared to attack them, and they led a very happy life.
